Safari Montage Home Access Server Now Available

The Safari Montage Home Access server is now available for schools that subscribe to this service. Here's a message from Safari Montage.

Finally, SAFARI Montage from Home!

Aloha! I realize that many of you have been waiting patiently for this feature. This added benefit was made possible by the OCISS at the DOE and they also invested in a Central SAFARI Montage server to begin sharing valuable content very soon.

We are now ready to release Managed Home Access. Now, you can have all the wonderful SAFARI Montage resources at home or anywhere 24/7. You can preview videos, build playlists, quizzes, read teacher guides and plan lessons on your schedule.

DOE professional development videos and PD360

Hawaii Department of Education professional development videos created by OCISS (the former Teleschool Branch) will be available in PD360 in the near future. OCISS is working with PD360 on the technical procedures and will be doing a test within the next two weeks. After a successful test, existing videos will be uploaded on a regular basis until the entire inventory is transferred. Newly created videos will be uploaded as standard practice.

Mediasite presentation capture system acquired by OCISS

The Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support has acquired the Mediasite lecture capture system and has installed the server in the Extended Learning Opportunites and Student Support Mapunapuna office.

Mediasite is a unique system that captures video and a powerpoint presentation simulataneously, eliminating the need to edit the two together into a single video for distribution later. Once the capture is completed the presentation can be uploaded for viewing through a web page. This application is ideal for presentations that need to be shared with a large audience.

More information on mediasite can be found at http://www.sonicfoundry.com/

Support for Safari Montage Schools

The Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support (OCISS), Extended Learning Opportunities and Student Support Section (ELOSS) and Safari Montage have partnered together to provide the following resources to schools that are using Safari Montage.

Safari Montage WAN Manager
The Safari Montage WAN Manager allow schools to receive video programs developed by the Hawaii DOE. Once in place, the ELOSS section will be able to upload and send video programs like, "KidPhysics", "Say It In Chinese" and other original programs to schools using Safari Montage.

Managed Home Access Streamer
The Safari Montage Home Access Streamer allows schools to access their video streaming content from home.

ELOSS is in the process of installing and working out the technical issues to make these two products operational. An update will be provided once it is ready. The main purpose for this is cost savings and efficiency. The WAN Manager allows existing video content to be distributed in this new format and the Managed Home Access Streamer allows access from home from one central location in the department rather than schools having to purchase their own server for this service.
